Mandeville LA – For people who still read daily newspapers in the U.S. it is a wonder they haven’t sold all their stuff and moved to Fiji. From rising murder rates and the decline of morality there isn’t much good to read about these days. Of course the guardians at the media gates will tell you that they “just report the news, they don’t make it”. That might have been true 50 years ago but that was “back in the day”. Take for example a front page story in many newspapers including our local birdcage liner. “CDC Reports: That States With High Gun Ownership Have Higher Gun Death Rates.”

Gee, what a revelation! What’s next “AAA Reports: States With Higher Car Ownership Have Higher Car Accident Rates”? This is the game modern media outfits play today. Find a problem their buddies in government and “non-profit” groups can allegedly “solve” then start compiling and twisting “data” until a life or death solution can be proposed. In other words the growth of government rises with the growth of media that covers government.

To help flesh this out 1 the same media hacks have no interest in mining for stories. In 1970, the rate of happily married, two parent families was nearly identical for the top 20% of income and the bottom 30% of income. By 2005, the top 20% rate was nearly the same while the bottom 30% had fallen off the chart. The same survey also shows that the per cent of head of household working full- time is unchanged at nearly 90% for the top 20% while the bottom 30% has plunged to 50%.

Work ethic, happy marriage and an aversion to gun violence won’t come from a newspaper, FaceBook or data-manipulating “non-profit.” For that, folks must return to The House they spent most of their time at, “back in the day.”
