The GOP Base Promotes Big Government Expansion With 9-9-9

2011 Mike Church

Hey folks, its Mike Church with today’s Church Doctrine.

The latest polls out gauging the GOP field for President show candidate Herman Cain in the lead and his 9-9-9 tax plan approved by 56% of the GOP electorate. Most observers would cheer these numbers as indications of the party and its candidates plans receiving widespread support. To compound this assertion there was a straw poll taken in SC this weekend which shows Mr. Cain notching a commanding 55% victory.

Can it be that the conservative nation has begun to rally around a candidate and plan that will save us all from ourselves AND get rid of Obama? Sadly, the answer is yes to both questions: an unvetted political novice with a plan to expand the federal governments taxing authority is poised to become the nominee of the political party of small government and the Constitution, wow.

Conservatives and Tea Party types have been howling about the unconstitutionality of ObamaCares individual mandate to purchase health insurance saying they cannot find power for this anywhere in the Constitution. Well, what a coincidence, I have searched the same document and can find no power for Congress to impose a national sales tax. To conservatives cheering on Mr. Cain this seems to either not matter or be an amendment that conservatives would embrace the passage and ratification of. When I asked those same conservatives to encourage their states to call for an Article V Amendment convention to reign in the commerce clause and the runaway federal judiciary I was told by vast majorities that this was too dangerous an endeavor. That was then and this is now.

Combine this with the conservative masses rejection of Ron Pauls stellar record of voting on the Constitution and we can see a clear trend: The status quo of Big Brother is just fine when run and even expanded by conservatives as the national sales tax most certainly would do. Chalk another one up for the party of limited expansion of big government.
