Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – You want to tell me that ancient history and Roman and Greek history is not worth studying, I defy you.  He is describing conditions that existed around 50, 60 BC, somewhere around there.  He is describing conditions which existed in ancient Rome as they lost their way and stopped being republicans and became Empiricists.  The exact same thing has happened here today.  Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mike:  A very intriguing post for you to read at today’s Imaginative Conservative website, theimaginativeconservative.org, by Brad Birzer about the [r]epublican’s republican, and that is Cicero.  I’m not going to get into here because it would really get us into the weeds, and it’s a really long lecture that Brad gave that was transcribed.  There is one passage of it that is worth quoting.  I actually have quoted it in today’s Pile of Prep.  This is from Cicero and it has everything to do with our current pickle.  Cicero said this:

[reading]

What remains of the morals of antiquity, upon which [the Roman poet] said that the Roman state stood?  We see that they are so outworn in oblivion that they are not only not cherished but are now unknown.  What am I to say about the men?  The morals themselves have passed away through a shortage of men; and we must not only render an account of such an evil, but in a sense we must defend ourselves like people being tried for a capital crime.  It is because of our vices, not because of some bad luck, that we preserve the commonwealth in name alone but have long ago lost its substance.”

Mike:  You want to tell me that ancient history and Roman and Greek history is not worth studying, I defy you.  He is describing conditions that existed around 50, 60 BC, somewhere around there.  He is describing conditions which existed in ancient Rome as they lost their way and stopped being republicans and became Empiricists.  The exact same thing has happened here today.  We exist under the aegis of the Constitution in name only so the powers that be can pretend that they have some carte blanche authority to actually make the rules they make.  They don’t.  There will come a day of reckoning, folks, and that power will be reclaimed.  Let us pray that it is a peaceful transfer.

Cicero was describing Rome and thus is describing us.  Nations all follow the same courses.  It doesn’t matter what time, what era, whatever.  The old traditions and the old moralities, once they are abandoned, once men of virtue become in short supply, and now women of virtue, we know what comes next.  Answer the question of how many people the world over now fear the Roman army.  Answer the question of how many people the world over now use Roman currency as the default currency.  Answer the question how many people use the default language of Latin, what the Roman language once was.  You will have your answer about what’s going to happen to the United States if we don’t do something about it.  I would say that means there will not be a United States as the union is currently consecrated.

The history is clear.  We may not know the details, but we know the general direction of what is to transpire.  What is going to happen is what happens in every instance when there is a lack of public virtue, which we most certainly have today.  The only way to get this back is to start at home.  Start with your young men, start with your daughters, start with yourself.  Learn, read, become a gentleman, a gentle lady.  Do everything you can do acquaint yourself with the great works of those men that you think were great statesmen.  Do the same with your children.  That’s really all you can do, and lead by example and evangelize about these things.  Become an evangelist for [r]epublicanism and for the moral code that is required for it to operate and for it to be successful.

My question, are we the old Roman Empire revived? Iron mixed with Clay.
