Perhaps,Mike, your listeners would like you to share what college and universities were actually designed for. Most universities were established to promote religious studies, and explore the inner man in order to be come the gentlemen you spoke of last week. College was a gathering for the share of information and passing down the wisdom of the previous generations. I used college as many southern plantation owners did. I sent my daughter there to meet her beau. Some how she managed to receive a business degree that got her a job in the mortgage stuff and now working as office director, etc. I strayed from subject. The change in the role of higher education came during the Veitnam era. Your choice was, get drafted and die, defect to Canada, or college deferment. The education system exploded. Always remember, when government subsidizes any thing the price goes up. You can take that to the bank, or better still, to the stock market. Keep up the good work, DUDE!

Wil Shrader Jr.

It seems parents aspire not to see their children succeed with any specific vector but merely to attend college. “I work hard to save/pay for my child to go to college.” Then what? Learn what? Do what with it? Is attending an institution of higher government indoctrination and debt accumulation the end of your hopes and dreams for your family?
When I was at this time in my life, I wasn’t sure I wanted to but felt compelled because that is what you are expected to do. My family could not afford it and therefore our efforts went toward working the system in the best way to do so. We failed but that does not matter. If I had known the fallacy of this and the fact that I would be better off not going and actually learning a trade or craft in my teens, I would be a better for it now. This is complicated by the fact that I had no idea what I wanted to do. I quit when I realized I was not happy and before I had accumulated debts I could not repay. I repaid my debts for the 3 years I wasted.
