5 EASY Steps to Immigration Solution
By Mike Church
18 June, 2007 - On ABC;s This Week with george Stephanopoulus Senator Lindsay Graham of South Carolina said of the “Comprehensive Immigration Bill Sb 1348 “....to my Republican colleagues: this is the best Bill we’re ever gonna to get.”
Well if this convoluted, loophole laden, special interest pandering foreign country deferring to sham is as good as it gets in the Senate then it must be time to fix the Senate and I suggest a repeal of amendment 17 will start that process in earnest.
While waiting for Hell’s bout with Global Warming to end here is my proposal to fix the immigration problem, illegal AND legal.
1. Build the Border Fence and build it quickly. In 1932 we rerouted the mighty Colorado River and built the Hoover dam. Some said this couldn’t be done.
Not only was it done but it was done AHEAD of schedule. We should treat the Southern Border as fatally compromised and marshall all energy and resources into building the fence.
2. Ask cellphone companies to voluntarily program their systems to accept *BP calls and route those calls to INS offices in that state or region. That way citizens and business owners can have a simple way to notify authorities of illegal alien activity.
3. The INS, ICE and other agencies already have deportation powers so let’s use them. If you’re illegal and you’re captured, you’re deported.
4. Give an Amnesty. Not THAT kind of Amnesty, after the border fence is up and certified operational, give Illegals 90 days to leave the country with no penalty, payment, fine or imprisonment. After the 90 day Amnesty any illegal captured will be deported AND denied any chance at ever entering into the U.S. Legally again.
5. Freeze all LEGAL immigration numbers at their 2000 levels. This will remain in effect until 2010 at which time Congress can consider changing those numbers. A temporary Guest worker program should be set up and administered by the states . In this program businesses can apply for guest workers from other countries.
The verification and identification process can be outsourced. This would allow the States to customize their immigration programs to fit their needs. The States would NOT be able to confer citizenship on guest workers.
