By Mike Church 13 Feb, 2007 - In a lyric from the hit song “It’s the end of the world as we know it” the rock band R.E.M. sang “....It starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes... Lenny Bruce is not afraid”. It appears R.E.M got the end of the world wrong. If Lenny Bruce is NOT afraid then he will be labeled a “Holocaust Denier” the current, Hitler invoking moniker given to any one who dares to challenge the claim that the Left’s new Religion, Man Made Catastrophic Global Warming (MMCGW) is NOT established, undeniable science.
In a media driven culture where purple robe wearing nutballs who expect to hitch a rapturous ride on the next passing comet get their own specials on the History Channel I guess ANYTHING is believable. Even though we have museums filled with moon rocks and a solar powered laser that was installed on la luna and is still projecting irritating red dots on movie screens showing “Apollo 13” the American media continues to “report” on the freaks that insist the Apollo Moon Landings were a hoax perpetrated on the world. Is THAT considered undeniable now?
Last week the IPCC (Irritating People Claiming Catastrophe) issued a report on the report they will release in June on it’s latest “scientific findings on global climate change”. This is like releasing the NFL’s rushing statistics for the 2007 season, which ends in January 2008, in September 2007. The IPCC, not sufficiently convinced that a mere warming “trend” can bring down the U.S. economy decided to up the ante. They dispatched Dr. Susan Soloman to the hearing chamber of Senator Barbara Boxer to spread the Gospel of American Made Climate Catastrophe the U.N. had just discovered and this is what she said “[global warming’s] ....effects expected include more heavy rain, more drought, more heat waves and more sea level rise”.
Wow, more rain AND drought at the same time? Somebody better get Boyle’s Law ready for a revisit from the U.N. Dr. Solomon and her merry band of Enviro-Priests assume, without any scientific backing, that more rain and drought and sea-level rise would happen if there were NO HUMANS around to cause it.
This is a fine position to defend if you have a handy explanation for why the dinosaurs disappeared while they were enjoying bathing in the giant lake-bed or ocean that is now the Grand Canyon. Now I’m not one to question the learned ramblings of climate scientists but the Hummer 2 was invented nearly 220 million years AFTER The Grand Lake Water Ski & Dino Dude Ranch Resort became the Grand Canyon. How do you explain that?
In yesterday’s Boston Globe Senators John McCain & Joseph Lieberman, collectively known as the “Climate Cassandra Brothers” wrote that “The recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel (the aforementioned IPCC) on Climate Change concluded there is a greater than 90 percent chance that greenhouse gases released by human activities like burning oil in cars and coal in power plants are causing most of the observed global warming. This report puts the final nail in denial's coffin about the problem of global warming.”
Watch where your putting that nail Senators you may pop a CO2 balloon!
Nigel Calder, the former editor of New Scientist magazine and co-author of the upcoming book “The Chilling Stars” writes about the 90% chance that Senator Cassandra is right “...small print explains “very likely” as meaning that the experts who made the judgment felt 90% sure about it. Older readers may recall a press conference at Harwell in 1958 when Sir John Cockcroft, Britain’s top nuclear physicist, said he was 90% certain that his lads had achieved controlled nuclear fusion. It turned out that he was wrong. More positively, a 10% uncertainty in any theory is a wide open breach for any latter-day Galileo or Einstein to storm through with a better idea. That is how science really works.”
Science? Why’s Nigel talking about that antiquated discipline? Not to worry though if you worship at Sunday services with Sister Heidi Cullen on the Weather Channels Channel’s “The Climate Code”, we’re not going to let science stand in the way of a good horror story, now pass the wicker, wiccan collection plate and get the Man Made Climate Change Denier gallows ready too.
