Militia Needs Everything the Standing Military Has

el_rey_dude_DETAILMandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – The Virginia militia, the South Carolina militia, the Georgia militia, the North Carolina militia, the Tennessee volunteers, they were already armed.  They were armed as militiamen and they were armed as if they were an army that could be called upon and called into service.  That’s how they were able to do it.  Now, of course, once the war broke out, obviously they would have to compete with the Union Army, so they would have to then upgrade their armaments.”  Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mike:  I do recall saying, when we were talking about the Second Amendment on Friday last, and the incorporation of the Second Amendment, and people misunderstanding the militia clauses in the Second Amendment and why those clauses were important, it was because it was important to the founding generation that if you were going to have a militia and you were going to have a central government at the same time, militias in the states, the central government having the ability to call the militias together to make one army, that the point of the Second Amendment was so that the militia would be equally armed.  For the clowns that say, [mocking] “What, do you want a Howitzer?” well, if the U.S. Army has one, yeah.  The Louisiana National Guard ought to have a Howitzer, you’re damn right.  That’s the whole point so that you’re never ordered — it’s almost like mutually-assured destruction, harkening back to the days of the Cold War — you’re never ordered to go invade a state because they have inferior armaments.

Has anyone wondered about this?  How was it that the federal cavalry and that the Union Army, which was, by their own admission, the army of the United States, how was it that the Southern, the Confederacy and the Confederate Army were able to, in a matter of weeks — that’s all they had to put an army together to try to defend Virginia from Meade’s army or McClellan’s army, ordered by Lincoln, to go put down the Southern Confederacy.  How were they able to do that?  Has anyone ever thought about that?  I have.  It’s because they were already armed.  The Virginia militia, the South Carolina militia, the Georgia militia, the North Carolina militia, the Tennessee volunteers, they were already armed.  They were armed as militiamen and they were armed as if they were an army that could be called upon and called into service.  That’s how they were able to do it.  Now, of course, once the war broke out, obviously they would have to compete with the Union Army, so they would have to then upgrade their armaments.

That’s how and why the army of Virginia was prepared to try and stop the federal army in the Valley Campaign led by Stonewall Jackson and at the various battles of Fredericksburg.  If you were to say that today, the Southern Poverty Law Center would call you a racist.

You’d be some sort of Nazi.  [mocking] “What do you mean you want to arm your militia?  What do you mean you want to arm the state national guard the way the federal army is and the national army washington's birthday celebration with Times That Try Men's Souls on CDis?  You can’t do that.  It’s illegal.”  Really?  Where is it illegal?

I want to share something with you.  I stumbled upon this book yesterday while I was researching my latest video for the local ABC channel, ABC26 WGNO here in New Orleans.  By the way, funny story about that.  Here is the title of my video as I submitted it to WGNO yesterday, “Mary Landrieu’s Legacy?  LA Addicted To Bailout Crack.”  That’s the title that I turned in.  Apparently my title was a bit strong for the news department at WGNO because the title of the video on the website is “Landrieu’s Legacy.”  They left all the good parts out.  In any event, I was wondering who actually — this is a fascination of mine of late — who actually said famous things that are repeated, famous quotes.  More times than not, I find that who we think or who the quote has been attributed to is almost never the actual author.  Such is the case yesterday.

Who do you think said this?  If I read this one to you — I’ll read it and I won’t tell you who said it.  You can post your answer at Twitter, Twitter.com/TheKingDude, on the Facebook newsfeed Mike Church Show Fan Page, or via email, KingDude@MikeChurch.com.  Who said the following?  “Any government powerful enough to give the people all that they want is also powerful enough to take from the people all that they have.”  Young Eric, who do you think said that?  You’ve probably heard that said in maybe slightly different verbiage but pretty much the same idea.  Who do you think said that?

Eric:  The guy from V for Vendetta.  It seems like something he would say.

Mike:  Guy Fawkes?

Eric:  I guess that one guy with the mask.

Mike:  Guy Fawkes, right?

Eric:  Is that his name?  I never learned his name in that movie.  I never heard them say his name.

Mike:  “Remember, remember, the Fifth of November.”  V for Vendetta wasn’t about Guy Fawkes.  It was about a Fawkesean — “Remember, remember, the Fifth of November,” I think, happened in the late 1500s, early 1600s.  You know the story, right?  Guy Fawkes and his buddies were going to blow the parliament up.  It was an early form of Anglo-Saxon terrorism, as a matter of fact.  If Guy Fawkes and his gang were around today, Obama would take them out with a drone on American soil without trial.  In any event, I started researching that quote and many people attribute a form of that quote to Thomas Jefferson.  Well, I can tell you, if you’re tweeting right now Jefferson, stop because it’s not TJ.

Eric:  I guess JM, James Madison.

Mike:  I’m not saying it until I announce the winner, until I see if anyone gets this.  In any event, when you track these things down and you try to find out the actual author of something like this — if you want to learn, if you want to educate yourself, this is a great way to do it.  Think of a famous quote and type it into a search engine.  You can use the safe ones.  I use SafeSearch now.  SafeSearch doesn’t return all the results I want.  If it doesn’t satisfy me, then I go to Google, but I try SafeSearch first, just so Google can’t see what I’m doing.  You try to track this down, and if you follow footnotes and books and stuff, it leads you on a wonderful little journey.  You’ll find all sorts of things that you did not go looking for.  What I usually do is mark them all down or write a little paragraph.  I have a program where I can make footnotes.  As I’m discovering this, I’ll make footnotes and save the document.  When I want to talk to you people about it, all I have to do is open that document and click the footnote and bammo, kaplowee, there I am.

I discovered who the author of this particular quote was, and that led me then to his book, and what a great book it is.  As a matter of fact, I actually ordered it from Amazon yesterday.  It’s out of print.  If I were to read from his book and tell you who it was, I would give the identity of the author away, so I’m not going to tell you who it was.  The name of the book is An Enemy Hath Done This.  Apparently this book was very popular with Mormons.  I don’t mean that in any fashion like some of you think I do.  That is an observation, not an opinion.  I ultimately tracked the quote down because that particular passage is widely quoted in a lot of modern Mormon political writing.  That’s how I located it.  An Enemy Hath Done This is the book.  I just want to read this short passage from the book:

We have lived in an atmosphere of inflation for so long that many people now accept the benefits of permanent debt as a firm law of economics. But if inflation runs its full course and drops over into depression with little if any real income for millions of workers, the country may well have to start over with a brand new currency which will be in extremely short supply to pay off those existing debts.

Even in times of economic stability it is sound practice to live within one’s income and avoid unnecessary debt. Such practice is doubly sound in times like these.  Each of us should make every effort to become economically independent, at least within the family unit. Avoid looking to

government for handouts or future security. Again, this is not only good practice in normal times, but especially important today. A government which is unable to pay its own bills can hardly be depended upon to pay yours.

Finally, when the going gets rough, we mustn’t rush to Washington and ask Big Brother to take care of us through price controls, rent controls, guaranteed jobs and wages. Any government powerful enough to give the people all that they want is also powerful enough to take from the people all that they have. And it is even possible that some of the government manipulators who have brought us into this economic crisis are hoping that, in panic, we, the American people, literally will plead with them to take our liberties in exchange for the false promise of “security.” As Alexander Hamilton warned almost 200 years ago: “Nothing is more common than for a free people, in times of heat and violence, to gratify momentary passions by letting into the government principles and precedents which afterward prove fatal to themselves.”
