There are four men that are mentioned in this that were in the Philadelphia Convention that framed the Constitution. All four of them realized the gravity of what it is they're discussing in 1794 in Congress. Three of them decide that the solution is disunion. The fourth says I don't think you should do that, but he doesn't say that they can't do it. Do I have your attention and your interest now?

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – The last caller to the program asked me what I thought the founders, why they opposed or why they afraid of big government. I said to him that to answer that question, you’d have to understand or explain exactly what big government would have meant to them. It did not mean to them what it means to us today, because we see this monstrosity and this excessive abuse of power that unfortunately has become commonplace, it seems, has been accepted by the rank-and-file citizenry out there, and is the great tragedy indeed of the early part of the 21st century, I think. Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mandeville, LA - You’ve probably all read the KY & VA Resolves on nullification & interposition and, like most people, think that is the beginning and end of the story, but like most great epics in history there is always a back story that is equally as important. In the case of Nullification & Interposition the back story is that the inspiration for the resolves wasn’t from a brain storming session between Jefferson, Taylor & Madison. The inspiration actually came from the CITIZENS of Fredericksburg VA.

Mandeville, LA - Church Doctrine - When I think of the US Air Force I think of its theme song “Off we go, into the wild blue yonder… nothing can stop the US Air Force,” nothing except a misunderstood use of the first Amendment. You see, the Air Force Academy is under fire for asking cadets to recite its oath, “[w]e will not lie, steal or cheat nor tolerate among us anyone who does. Furthermore, I resolve to do my duty and live honorably, so help me God.”

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – In this one rare instance here, we all remain republicans but we can maybe claim that we’re Republicans now. A shocker of all shockers that Speaker John Boehner has not folded the tent, which I must say I am cheerfully impressed by. I don’t hold out any hope that he’s actually going to hold the line, but he certainly is not giving into the demands, the illicit and I think ridiculous demands of, number one, the president, who doesn’t have any say-so in it. Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – Still, what Obama is doing today, I’m sorry, folks, it does not rise to the level of what President Wilson did. President Wilson, in 1917, two acts were passed, the Espionage Act and the Sedition Act. There were tens of thousands of American citizens that refused to surrender, as you people like to call them today, many of you, constitutional rights to not be conscripted. There is no constitutional right to conscript anyone into the draft. It is illegal and unconstitutional. Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – Then the real fireworks began when Senator John “Rambo” Kerry made his way into the United States Senate chamber and began answering questions from people like Rand Paul. I have the pertinent parts of the Paul-Kerry dialogue from yesterday. If you haven’t heard it, it is illuminating inasmuch as Senator Paul is not buying any of the secretary of defense’s mighty protestations. Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – If you were to ask members of the founding generation, if you were to go back in time, if you could hop in the King Dude’s wayback machine and ask Richard Henry Lee: What do you think about this new constitution deal? How do you think this is going to turn out for your posterity and for future generations? He, with others, was mortified. He thought it was going to turn out exactly as it is turning out today and as it began to degrade and devolve in the early part of the 19th century. Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mandeville, LA - Exclusive Video and Audio - There's an ongoing discussion of whether or not Ted Cruz is eligible for running for President... even though he has not announced is running as of yet. Certainly he meets the requirements for being a Senator, but does he meet the requirements for being a President? Let's let James Madison explain... According to Mr. Madison the "natural born citizen" requirement does not necessarily mean that he was born on U.S. soil. The question is more about the loyalty of ones parents? If ones parents are loyal to another country when that person is born then they may not be considered a natural born citizen. Read more about what Madison wrote here in today's Project 76 post and be sure and check out today's Founders TV for more of Mike's take on this and sign up for a Founders Pass to get all of the Founders TV and much more!

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – The only way you can really stay the course, I think anyway, is through the exercise of your faith. Just know that this is part of my Lord’s plan for me. I have to execute the difficult parts, as well as the happy parts, with equal fervor and equal cheer, and just be of the belief that this was as it was intended to be. Who am I to say no to the challenge? Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – [r]epublicanism is a way of life, folks. It’s not a fad; it’s not a trend. Your forefathers practiced it, but alas, it seems just a bridge too far for the average hoi polloi American sheeple citizen these days. We defer to Mordor on almost everything it seems. As a matter of fact, we defer to it with such regularity, I often wonder why some people protest so mightily about it. What’s the big deal? Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – Hayes actually went to Red Hill, which is where Henry lived and died, and asked permission of the family and the curator of the family estate and found Henry’s own diaries and the logs that Patrick Henry used to catalog his possessions. Back in those days, if you had books, books were like -- what would you compare a book to today? A book was a prized possession. They were very difficult to make. Usually what would happen is somebody would purchase a copy and they would read it and then they would send it to someone else. Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mandeville, LA - In a post I wrote earlier this week we discussed the fact the not only were the Southern States correct in their assertion of the Constitution as a Compact but nearly the entire PLANET agreed with them-save for that violent, tyrannical mob in New England. My post made its way onto the pages of The Imaginative Conservative website. In the comments that resulted, it was asserted that I didn't know what I was talking about and that the VA Founding Fathers NEVER intended for that glorious state to ever be able to leave the union once admitted through ratification. Here is my response to one Andrew Seely citing the VA ratifying Convention as source.

Mandeville, LA - Exclusive Video and Audio - On today's Founders TV Mike goes over the history of the Republican Party and it may not be what you've been taught... The Republican Party isn't the "Defenders of the Constitution" that the current party has supposedly made themselves out to be, in fact, if you were a little r [r]epublican back before Lincoln, you were most likely... A DEMOCRAT! Be sure and grab a Founders Pass to check out the rest of the show!

Mandeville, LA - Exclusive Transcript - What Taylor is saying is that you should only have a tariff because you have a couple duties that the general government has to discharge. You should only have the tariff so that you can raise money to do that. You should not use the tariff to enrich anyone. You should not use the tariff as a tool to try to guide commerce. Commerce will guide itself. The genius and the brilliance of John Taylor of Caroline in the founding generation is unequal. He got it; he got all of it. Check out the rest in today's transcript...

Mandeville, LA - Exclusive Video and Audio - How many of you think that George Washington would have accepted all of the accoutrements that Petraeus did as head of the CIA? Do you think Washington would have taken a 28 horse entourage from the airport (had they been around) to his mistresses house? I think not, his honor would not have let him. Well, the guys that run our country now have it pretty easy, police escorts, a staff to read everything important for them, chef to cook their meals, etc. If you wonder how he could have behaved so badly, just look at his lifestyle... he was spoiled rotten. Mandeville, LA - Exclusive Transcript - Where are the smart people at? We have a deficiency of smart people. I don’t mean people who can divine or devise a new electronic gadget for you to carry around and fritter away the hours. Where are the real smart people? Where are the Jeffersons, the Taylors, the Madisons? Where are the Davises or the Calhouns? Where are the Coolidges? Where are the Carnegies? Where are the Melons? Where are the geniuses that we need, desperately need, to chart a course out of this and then preach the good word and actually have it make sense to people? Where are those people at? We have a competition it seems for American Idol status quo. Check out the rest in today's transcript...

Mandeville, LA - Exclusive Audio and Transcript - This is Mike's response to Andrew from New York, which you can listen to in today's audio. "The New York, Yankee elite cannot see the attraction or the worthiness of the Southern gentleman. No wonder you bombed us back into the stone ages, Andrew. You’re a perfect example. This is exactly the attitude that your forefathers had. They can’t understand the usefulness of these guys hanging out at their plantations. Let me give you an example of some of these guys that you just described were useless. Jefferson was one, Washington, Madison, Taylor of Caroline, Mason, Richard Henry Lee. I can go on for about another three and a half hours if you like. They all fit that character that I described, that Weaver was describing there. You don’t see the usefulness of those guys. That’s interesting, isn’t it, folks? I appreciate the window into the fact that not much has changed since 1861, Andrew. Thank you very much."

Mandeville, LA - Exclusive Transcript - The true conservative in the mold of [r]epublicans like Madison and Washington and Taylor of Caroline and the Englishman Burke and 20th century versions you would find like Tolkien and C.S. Elliott and Russell Kirk and others, they would not recognize today’s conservatives. I think that says an awful lot of bad things about today’s conservatives. I used to ask the question: what is it that we want to conserve? It’s not all about politics. Sometimes it’s about literature, sometimes it’s about manners, sometimes there are matters of faith, matters of virtue and character. These are the things that ought to describe the conservative. It seems to me that you find that liberals are more open to saying the culture of every other country doesn’t suck, as you’ll hear many conservatives “That country stinks. They’re knocking America. They stink.” The conservative acknowledges that there are other cultures that are just as viable as ours and that maybe we can even learn things from them. Check out the rest in the transcript...
