Community Is An Endangered Species And Superman Is A Hipster

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – Today there are fewer and fewer communal associations. You’re told not to be part of what anyone else is doing, go toot your own horn, march to your own drummer. You need to be an individual first. You’re not a member of anything. No, we’re all Facebooking, Twittering, and pursuing our individualism, our radical autonomy all as individual little atoms totally free from any attachment whatsoever to the rest of humanity, other than the fact that we’re human. “A Tale of Two Cités” Two Visions of America… and They’re Both French

Mandeville, LA - Exclusive Video and Audio - Leo Linbeck III has an article at The Imaginitive Conservative comparing two 19th Century Frenchmen's vision of America, Rousseau and Tocqueville, to our current political situation. It seems that America has been divided in two for a very long time, Tories and Whigs, North and South, Republicans and Democrats... always two differing views on how the country should move forward. So the fact that we're divided right now is nothing new, the Constitution almost wasn't ratified because of the Nationalists (and wouldn't have been if there had been telegraphs). For more on Mike's take on Leo Linbeck's article on Rousseau and Tocqueville, check out the rest of today's Founders TV, and be sure and sign up for a Founder's Pass if you haven't already!

Zmirak: Don’t Give in to Dead Murderers Wishes, You Grant Them Posthumous Victory

Mandeville, LA - Exclusive Transcript - In regards to the Newtown, Connecticut shooting, people trying to attach meaning to these things, we talked about yesterday, sometimes there is no meaning. If there is meaning, the meaning is probably obvious. They’re evil men that desire to do evil things because they haven’t either been taught or they have rejected that evil is to be avoided and evil is to be minimized, that evil is going to cost you a place at God’s table in heaven. Zmirak says here are some of the things that people blame for shootings like in Newtown, the Adam Lanza kid: lax gun control laws, lax divorce laws, violent movies, the culture of death, torture, pornography, worldliness and lack of prayer.

Our Digital Age Makes Us Less Community-Centered Thus Less Human

Mandeville, LA - Exclusive Transcript - Consider what it is that the internet does. It desensitizes people to human concerns. You would not yell at your fellow man, in person, in the manner and would not call him or her the names. You would not insult their heritage, their parents, their children, their neighbors. Ninety-nine percent of what is done online that continually desensitizes and coarsens our discourse, cheapens it and makes it more unintelligent than it already is would not be done in person. You would not do that if the man was sitting across from you. Check out the rest in today's transcript...

“National Greatness Conservatism” No Link to GOP

Mandeville, LA - Exclusive Transcript - Conservatism’s advance or conservatism’s defense and then advance should not be predicated upon its marriage to a political party. The political party ought to be courting us. We should not be courting the political party. That equation is backwards. We’re the leaders that if the party wants to use our brain trust, if they’re smart and want to organize and retool what it is they do, they need to come to us. We don’t need to go begging on our knees to them. Remember, George Washington told us that political parties and partisanship is anathema. Check out the rest in today's transcript...

Nisbet and the Rise of the Machines

Mandeville, LA - Exclusive Transcript - What he’s basically saying is we have collectively, and are continuing to do this right now as we speak, surrendered what once was a grand community here in these United States. If you go back and read De Tocqueville’s Democracy in America, this is what he was most amazed by. Everywhere he went, there was a community. There were people that congregated together, built homes together, businesses together, towns together and what have you. They didn’t live like communists in that sense of the word, but they were bound together by certain traditions, customs and habits. One of them was their devotion to their service of their fellow man under Christian order. Check out the rest in today's transcript...
