Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – Imagine the big, bad Syrian military in 1863 and 1864 hearing of the atrocities being committed by the Union army, at the command of General Sherman and at the highest command by President Lincoln, sending their troops into Georgia to stamp out the Union army.  You may say those people in the South were being trampled upon.  There was total war.  Civilians were being targeted.  I guess the Syrians then would be doing the people of Georgia a favor.  Would they not, though, be allying themselves with one of the factions that is involved in an internecine struggle?  If you do that and your side doesn’t win, then you have created what?  You’ve created a new enemy.  You’ve guaranteed that you now have a new war economy. Check out the rest in today’s transcript…

Mike:  I’d like to answer the question to you today, because I did not get a chance to answer it appropriately yesterday, and it’s a good, valid question: Does the prospect of Assad using chemical weapons on his people change or how does that affect my view or my opinion on nonintervention and what the United States of America should do about the Syrian conflict?  That’s the way you asked the question, correct?

AG:  Yep.

Hear the story of the United States AFTER the Constitution like you’ve never heard it before

Mike:  Here’s my answer: I would say imagine for a moment the big, bad Syrian military — you’re going to have to fantasize a little bit here but bear with me.  Imagine the big, bad Syrian military in 1863 and 1864 hearing of the atrocities being committed by the Union army, at the command of General Sherman and at the highest command by President Lincoln, sending their troops into Georgia to stamp out the Union army.

I would say if we get involved in yet another conflict, regardless of what the human toll is — it’s not our job to mitigate these things.  Let’s just say for a moment that the campaign is not successful.  We will then have, as if we need another, earned ourselves yet another enemy in the world.  Why do we need another enemy?  For me, my answer is that the world should continue to do what it’s doing.  Look with and express great displeasure and heap great scorn upon what is happening in Syria today.  If you intervene and you alter the outcome, you also alter the power in that region.  That then is going to require U.S. forces and United States military and United States dollars to be involved in keeping or preventing whatever peace or whatever conflict is going to be the result of that.

I just say we have enough on our plate already.  The answer is no.  You do exactly what Mrs. Clinton is doing right now.  I hate to say that.  I don’t know that President Obama is going to hold the line on this.  It seems to me that he was waving the war flag himself two days ago, wasn’t he?

AG:  It’s going to be interesting to see what happens here.  I guess there are mixed reports coming out in terms of Assad mixing the chemicals into the bombs, where the rebels are advancing, the endgame.  I also wonder, is there work that can be done with the border allies in the region to ensure their safety, whether it be a country like Turkey?  Is there some kind of support we give them where it’s not troops on the ground, not no-fly zones, that sort of thing, to ensure their safety and be proactive in trying to calm things down in the region?

Mike:  That is even more protracted intervention for sure.  There’s one more thing here.  I think I’ve heard the story of chemical weapons being mixed and weapons of mass destruction being ferried about in another Middle Eastern country, if memory serves, as an excuse to go to war.  Call me skeptical on this one.
