Do Gun Laws and Executive Orders Make Us All Magically Safer?

Mike:  So Obama starts off with, [mocking Obama] “In the audience today, they wrote me letters, begged me to take the Constitution and throw it on the ground and micturate on it.  I’m gonna do it.  You watch, kids.”

President Obama: Recognizing that we honor their memories, in part by doing everything we can to prevent this from happening again, but we also heard from some unexpected people. In particular, I started getting a lot of letters from kids. Four of them are here today, Grant Fritz, Julia Stokes, Hinna Zeejah and Taejah Goode. They’re pretty representative of some of the messages that I got. These are some pretty smart letters from some pretty smart young people. Hinna, a third grader, you can go ahead and wave, Hinna wrote, “I feel terrible for the parents who lost their children. I love my country. I want everybody to be happy and safe.” Grant, go ahead and wave, Grant said, “I think there should be some changes. We should learn from what happened at Sandy Hook. I feel really bad.” Then Julia said, “I’m not scared for my safety, I’m scared for others. I have four brothers and sisters and I know I would not be able to bear the thought of losing any of them.”

Mike:  This is just demagoguing by imposition here.  Young lady, would you be able to bear the loss of your sibling if they were killed in a plane crash?  They’re still dead.  Would you be able to bear the loss of your sibling if they were killed in a car accident?  What if they drowned at Lake Winnipesaukee?  What if some awful disease visited their body that had no cure?  I have major problems with demagogues to start with, and with those who believe and practice the art of politics for the sake of politics.  We have too much politics.  We have not enough reflection, life, leisure, study, wisdom, discipline.  Oh, but we studied this.  Joey Biden has been working on this for three weeks.  Trust me when I say this is the greatest thing that we could ever do.  Trust me.

In the convention that produced the Constitution — the 28 days that Joey Biden has spent furiously listening to all the American public and burning midnight oil and divining away through this forest of gun violence, all these lunatics, freaks and nuts and wackos in their vests and camo, who want to own these weapons and continue this stupid idea that someday they may need to defend themselves from their own government.  For 28 days, Joey Biden and the president have been noodling on this.  They have determined, because they got letters from eight-year-olds, that’s it’s time to do X.

Federal Convention of 1787 began on Monday, May 15, 1787.  You can look it up if you care.  It’s in my movie Spirit of ’76.  It begins on that Monday.  There are only three states’ worth of delegates there, so they don’t have a quorum and they can’t start.  So the convention doesn’t begin in earnest until the 25^th.  That’s when there are enough states there, I think seven, so they can have a quorum and actually begin.  If we went all the way to June the 15^th, which would have been four weeks from the start of the convention, the greatest, most brilliant minds, political minds anyway, in the history of these United States had not even agreed on how to frame a plan.  By the 15^th of June, they were still arguing over whether or not they even had the authority to author a new plan.  They hadn’t even resolved that they had the authority to move forward with what ultimately became the Constitution.

That’s an example of what wise men can do in 28 days.  They produce nothing, in other words.  They had nothing to show other than Madison and Washington’s diary notes, James McHenry and Judge Yates’ diary notes.  That’s all they produced in 28 days, no consensus on anything.  In 28 days of solace and solemn reflection, the erudite, wise Joey Biden, and even more wise Barack Obama, have figured out how to stop mass killing the world over.  They were inspired and guided by the inspiration of eight-year-olds.  Forgive me if I sound jaded.  [mocking] “Why don’t you give them a chance?”  I listened to what they had to say.  I listened to every word of it.  I’ve been following this from the get-go.  I will say to you that I believe there certainly are things that responsible citizens in their states and towns and communities can do.  We talked about them on this show.  For those of you that are libs screaming at your radios, let me give you an example of what you can do instead of pining away for new and more laws.

You can be extra vigilant in participation in your community.  I think you would know if one of your friends had a child that was a lunatic in waiting like the last three perps.  Did Mr. and Mrs. Loughner not know that their son was a wacko, that he was deranged?  Did Mr. and Mrs. Cho Seung-Hui, did they not know that their son was a cork, a powder keg getting ready to go off?  Ditto that for the other two perps, whose names I don’t want to mention.  I don’t want to give them any credit.  The point is, you can be vigilant.  Ladies and gentlemen, there is no silver bullet, no magic runes you can rub together, no spell you can cast that will ever stop all the evil that man does.  It just simply won’t.

In the process of doing what Obama and company are talking about, all you’re going to do is enlarge the power of the State.  As a matter of fact, he actually boasted and bragged, [mocking Obama] “I’m gonna appropriate $4.5 billion for the CDC to study why gun violence happens.”  It happens because there aren’t any more insane asylums.  That’s why it happens.  You’re not allowed to commit kids anymore.  You’re not even allowed to put kids on short yellow buses anymore.  No, we’re all equal.  There’s no child that stands out as being a problem kid or having a loose screw in his mind.  No, we don’t have that anymore.  That’s politically incorrect.  You don’t need the CDC to study this.

Isn’t it informative that government can solve these problems?  Gee, Mr. President, it seems to me that we’ve had one of the largest, poorly funded governments in the history of mankind, and it was in power and it did exist the day of Sandy Hook, the day of Aurora, and the day of the Tucson shooting of Gabby Giffords.  Your government was in power.  As a matter of fact, it happened on your watch with all your vainglorious federal agencies and all your vainglorious bureaucrats and all your laws and judges and medical professionals out there just sitting and waiting for the opportunity to intervene.  Your government, as large as it is, it failed to prevent this.

Actually, government had acted.  Government had tried to intervene, but government cannot and does not change the souls of men.  It does not change or alter the virtue or lack thereof of men.  When is someone going to point that obvious, glaring statement out?  There was ample law.  If all we have to do is pass laws to stop this, it would seem to me we could pass laws and stop all the malady of the human condition.  We can pass laws to make every woman happy, fully employed, paid more than her male counterparts.  Can we?  Pass a law.  We can pass laws and stop all the bullying immediately.  We can stop all the horrible things that happen in schools, like children eating French fries.  Just imagine the possibilities if you just surrender our liberties in the process.  There is nothing we cannot do together.

There are a couple opinion pieces today about this, Dana Milbank in the Washington Compost, “The gun debate is nothing to kid about.”  Oh, really?

If the gun debate gets any more juvenile, the participants will need strollers. The National Rifle Association took the first shot in this latest pursuit of the puerile. Not only did it release a political ad late Tuesday about the president’s children — a bipartisan taboo of long standing — but it made Sasha and Malia’s security the subject of a brutal attack on President Obama.

Mike:  All they did was point out that the Obama children are safe and sound on their way to and from school because they have men with big, badass guns guarding them.  AG, have you heard that ad?  It might be interesting or informative for the audience to hear it.  I heard it one time.

Mike:  I’ll get back to Milbank in a moment.  There’s another story that’s making the rounds.  The people that run Breitbart.com were positively orgasmic yesterday because Sheriff Peyman of Kentucky has promised that he will not enforce — here’s what it actually says:

Mike:  I asked the question to the Twitter audience yesterday, which is why some of you ought to be following the Twitter feed.  King Dude is 24/7.  I’m posting things all day long on the Twitter feed.  I asked a question that not one of you bothered to answer.  Here’s a question for the radio audience: Sheriff Peyman says he’s not going to enforce any act that Obama comes up with that violates his oath of office because he swore to uphold the U.S and Kentucky Constitutions.  In the instance of speaking about, talking about, muttering and murmuring about changes to firearm regulation initiated and then promulgated by the federal government, which constitution would give Sheriff Peyman authority to enforce what he just said?  Would it be Kentucky’s or the United States’?  If you are a red pill taker, you know the answer to this.  If you’re not, you have an incorrect answer, I guarantee you.  I actually went to the trouble of printing out a copy and it’s posted in today’s Pile of Prep, of the applicable parts of the Kentucky Constitution.

Mike:  It’s one of the rights you Kentuckians have.  Very peculiar to me, for all of you out there squawking about things you don’t know about, that there’s never been any regulation and any thought about concealed carry laws in the history of Americans until Democrats and progressives came around in the latter part of the 20^th century.  You have right here, from the 28^th of September 1891, concealed weapon regulation written in the damn Kentucky Constitution.   For those of you that refuse to go along with the proper reading of the U.S. Constitution, it is quite clear that the redneck, hick, hayseeds that wrote the 1891 Kentucky Constitution believed that it was their declared power to regulate firearms, and if they wanted to, they could write any law they wanted to in Kentucky about concealed weapons.  That’s kind of hard to reconcile with many of your statements that there’s never been a gun law on the books until liberals were born.  Maybe there was an acknowledgement that safety is important, and that not everyone wants people in their place of business, on their private property packing heat.  That’s just me talking out loud.  Which constitution will Sheriff Peyman be denying to enforce President Obama’s new 23 executive orders?  That’s the question.

Finally, from the Office of Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant, we have a letter written to the Honorable Tate Reeves, Office of the Lieutenant Governor and the Honorable Philip Gunn, Office of the Speaker of the House.

Dear Lieutenant Governor Reeves and Speaker Gunn:

President Obama will likely issue an executive order today that infringes our constitutional right to keep and bear arms as never before in American history. I am asking that you immediately pass legislation that would make any unconstitutional order by the President illegal to enforce in Mississippi by state or local law enforcement. Several states have introduced similar measures and I believe we’ll be successful in preventing this overreaching and anti-constitutional violation of our rights as American citizens. I look forward to your immediate and positive response to this request, as I know you share my concern over our sacred rights as Americans.

Mike:  Governor Bryant should be writing these letters, but make no mistake about it, this is the same governor — this is why I almost have to laugh at this — who just a few weeks ago said that he was perfectly comfortable with accepting the unconstitutional edicts and mandates handed down through Obamacare because his state needed the money.  If Obama decides you either implement my new gun laws, which are coming your way through your acceptance of that money I’m going to give you — the boatloads of federal money — or I’m going to take the money back.  I’m also going to take your Department of Transportation money back.  And I’m going to take your Department of Education money back.  I’m going to revoke your charter, which is what Dean Wormer would have said if he had a role in this.  Will the Mississippi governor stand tall with the people of Mississippi who have their hands out for Obama care, stand tall when they are informed they either implement the president’s initiatives as written or they don’t get the goodies?  Will they?  I think not.

So all this talk about cherishing freedoms and liberties, it’s all, for the most part, just a bunch of grandstanding.  Few people actually mean it.  Just like with Obamacare, too many of your fellow citizens are going to accept whatever it is that the President and Congress concoct, and will accept it because no one wants to upset that apple cart.  No one wants to have their federal goodies cut off, now do you?
