Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – Let me inform you of something.  Medicare is broke.  It doesn’t have enough income today to offset what it’s going to spend tomorrow.  Therefore, my daughter who just started her first payroll withholding job and is paying Medicare taxes that she can’t figure out why she has to pay, is subsidizing, having her meager 15-year-old wealth confiscated from her and then transferred to a grandparent somewhere.  That’s the fact, Jack.  Social Security pays out more than it takes in, therefore it is redistributive.  There are income limits on these things making it more progressive and redistributive.  The principle of the thing is we’re not going to have a reasoned, principled, truthful discussion about what kind of America we want because we’re going to be stuck with this stupid 47 percent tax number, yet this is exactly what the sheeple want. Check out the rest in today’s transcript…

Mike:  This is what I think is the watershed moment of the Cavuto interview in response to the surreptitiously, illegally recorded private property that should be the property of whoever owned the hotel, rented the room or owned the home where the speech was given that we’re all talking about today.

Mitt Romney: No, I’m talking about a perspective of individuals who I’m not likely to get to support me.  I recognize that those people who are not paying income tax are going to say, “Gosh, this provision that Mitt keeps talking about, lowering income taxes,” that’s not going to be real attractive to them.  Those that are dependent upon government, and those that think government’s job is to redistribute, I’m not going to get them.  I know there’s a divide in the country about that view.  I know some believe that government should take from some but give to the others.  I think the President makes it clear in the tape that was released today that that’s what he believes.  I think that’s an entirely foreign concept.  I believe America was built on the principle of government caring for those in need but getting out of the way and allowing free people to pursue their dreams.  Free people pursuing enterprises is the only way we will create a strong and growing middle class and the only way we’ll help people out of poverty.

Mike:  “I believe that government was built around the principle that it has to care for those in need.”  No, it wasn’t.  It most certainly wasn’t.  It drives me insane.  Why do you say things like that?  Our general government was built around the principle that we needed common defense, that we needed a sound currency, that we needed a unified voice to deal with foreign nations and foreign commerce, that we needed a uniform rule to naturalize citizens of these United States.  That’s the concept that it was built around.

If it was built around the concept that he’s talking about, then the assumption of war debt would have been built into the federal constitution.  Men like Daniel Shays would then have been thought of as those that [mocking] “You gotta help those that are in need.  Daniel Shays and a lot of soldiers out there are suffering because they were never paid for their service in the Continental Army.  Many of them are now destitute and poor.”  Just like with this silliness with the agriculture bill, Democrats and Republicans arguing over whether or not it’s going to be $1 trillion or whether or not it’s going to be $936 billion.  You’re arguing over something that should not be at all.

There’s a follow-up to this.  We don’t want to redistribute — I just hear this and — Mitt, you’re so much better off when you just shoot from the hip.  Lose the script.  We’re not built on redistribution, we only help those that need it, but then we have this:

[start audio clip]

Neil Cavuto: But do you think it’s a given that that base would ignore you entirely, Governor?  When you and your running mate Paul Ryan talked about reforming Medicare and trying to contain its growth, oddly enough, when you were on that theme, it was helping you in Florida, a state rich in Medicare beneficiaries and Social Security beneficiaries.  So talking tough on these issues doesn’t necessarily hurt you with the group that benefits from them.  Maybe you presupposed, prematurely, that this group was going to say no.

Mitt Romney: Let me tell you, we go after every group we can to get votes.  Seniors are, of course, people I’m getting in large numbers.  I’ve got great support from seniors because they’re unhappy with the fact that President Obama’s ObamaCare cuts Medicare by $716 billion.  I’m getting a lot of support from seniors.

Neil Cavuto: Do you think those same seniors —

Romney: A lot of seniors pay income tax.  A lot of seniors don’t like the idea that Medicare got cut $716 billion.  We’re getting great support.

Cavuto: A lot of those seniors, Governor, are in that camp —

[end audio clip]

Mike:  Who pays the Medicare taxes?  The Medicare income does not offset what it spends.  It is so far out of kilter that comedians can’t even make jokes about it because it’s too serious of a matter.  Medicare is redistribution, patently it is redistribution.  The young pay in so that the old get the benefit.  Then the program goes caput and money has to either be borrowed or the young have to pay an ever-increasing share of their income.  It is, by definition, redistribution.  Do you see what I’m saying, Andrew?  I just need to stop doing politics.  I can’t talk about these things without bringing the principle of the damn thing up.  Medicare is a redistributive act.  Social Security is a redistributive act.  On the one hand, we have one American that wants redistribution and one American that doesn’t.  No, no, no.  There are 12 to 15 percent of us that want no redistribution of our resources and wealth whatsoever, absolutely none, no redistribution.  You’re not getting a nickel of mine.  If I want to give it to a charity, I’ll give it to a charity.  That is what a charity is.  It is Judeo-Christian you will be your brother’s keeper, you will care for those not as fortunate as you.  You do that as an individual in the eyes of God.  You don’t do that because your government orders you to.  You don’t give it to the Red Cross so that they can do it for you.  You actually do it.

So Medicare and all the other things he’s talking about are redistributions.  Somehow people don’t see them as redistributions.  Let me inform you of something.
