The FAKE Threat Used To Justify Bombing Another Country

mordorMandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript By the bye, did you see the headlines yesterday or hear the news that the war against ISIS and ISIL and Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. and whoever else we’ll find over there to go to battle against costs $10 million a day?  That number is escalating for a grand total thus far of just shy of $1 billion.  I know, I know, chump change in the grand U.S. war machine scheme of things.”  Check out today’s transcript for the rest….

Mike:  We also have this from Glenn Greenwald, posted at The Intercept, which is his new site.  Greenwald posts under the title, “The Fake Terror Threat Used To Justify Bombing Syria.”

As the Obama Administration prepared to bomb Syria without congressional or U.N. authorization, it faced two problems. The first was the difficulty of sustaining public support for a new years-long war…

Mike: By the bye, did you see the headlines yesterday or hear the news that the war against ISIS and ISIL and Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. and whoever else we’ll find over there to go to battle against costs $10 million a day?  That number is escalating for a grand total thus far of just shy of $1 billion.  I know, I know, chump change in the grand U.S. war machine scheme of things.  Yet a billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon we’re talking about real borrowed money.  Back to the story:

A second was the lack of legal justification for launching a new bombing campaign with no viable claim of self-defense or U.N. approval.

The solution to both problems was found in the wholesale concoction of a brand new terror threat that was branded “The Khorasan Group.” After spending weeks depicting ISIS as an unprecedented threat — too radical even for Al Qaeda! — administration officials suddenly began spoon-feeding their favorite media organizations and national security journalists tales of a secret group that was even scarier and more threatening than ISIS, one that posed a direct and immediate threat to the American Homeland. Seemingly out of nowhere, a new terror group was created in media lore.

The unveiling of this new group was performed in a September 13 article by the Associated Press, who cited unnamed U.S. officials to warn of this new shadowy, worse-than-ISIS terror group.

Islamic_flag_white_houseMike:  Folks, we did talk about this the day that this happened on this show, the day after this happened when I asked the question: Who in Hades is Khorasan?  And where have they been all this time?  How could they now arise to be the threat of all threats, even to exceed Al Qaeda pre-911?  And yet no one in our vaunted journalistic, all over the next story media outlets, no one knew about this.  It had to come from a leak inside the Obama administration?  And so many people just fell for this hook, line and sinker.  No one asked the question: Hold on a second here, where did these guys come from?  You can’t just go in the Stratego box and pick out a new game piece to move around and say: Look, I got a Khorasan.  Who knew?  Then Greenwald details what was in the press release.  I’m not going to read that because you already know, because we already covered this.  We didn’t cover the analysis, though.

AP warned Americans that “the fear is that the Khorasan militants will provide these sophisticated explosives to their Western recruits who could sneak them onto U.S.-bound flights.” It explained that although ISIS has received most of the attention, the Khorasan Group “is considered the more immediate threat.”

The genesis of the name was itself scary: “Khorasan refers to a province under the Islamic caliphate, or religious empire, of old that included parts of Afghanistan.” AP depicted the U.S. officials who were feeding them the narrative as engaging in some sort of act of brave, unauthorized truth-telling: “Many U.S. officials interviewed for this story would not be quoted by name talking about what they said was highly classified intelligence.”

On the morning of September 18, CBS News broadcast a segment that is as pure war propaganda as it gets: directly linking the soon-to-arrive U.S. bombing campaign in Syria to the need to protect Americans from being exploded in civilian jets by Khorasan. With ominous voice tones, the host narrated:

“This morning we are learning of a new and growing terror threat coming out of Syria. It’s an Al Qaeda cell you probably never heard of. Nearly everything about them is classified. Bob Orr is in Washington with new information on a group some consider more dangerous than ISIS.”

Orr then announced that while ISIS is “dominating headlines and terrorist propaganda,” Orr’s “sources” warn of “a more immediate threat to the U.S. Homeland.” As Orr spoke, CBS flashed alternating video showing scary Muslims in Syria and innocent westerners waiting in line at airports, as he intoned that U.S. officials have ordered “enhanced screening” for “hidden explosives.” This is all coming, Orr explained, from ”an emerging threat in Syria” where “hardened terrorists” are building “hard to detect bombs.”

Mike:  I’m just going to stop right there.  We’ll pick up on it in just a bit here.  We have all we need to know now to deconstruct some more of this real dangerous and preposterous campaign that we are currently waging in Syria, and the congressional raison d’être, reason for being of the operation.  So what do we know about this Khorasan group?  Not much of anything, right, other than they’re more evil, more despicable than any terror group in the history of terror groups, and our knowledge of them is only starting to grow.  We do know that they are using Syria as a base of Khorasan_mapoperations.

What’s wrong with that description?  Couple that with the knowledge of the following: the U.S. Congress authorized billions of your dollars, you listening to this radio show right now, your dollars, to fund, aid and abet, train and equip with American weapons moderate rebel groups in Syria.  Can I ask you a question for those of you who still think this is sound policy and something smart to do?  If these Khorasan guys is just a band of 10,000 Lex Luthors, the greatest terrorist criminal minds in the history of terrorist criminal minds, do you not think for a moment that they can bamboozle your average member of Congress into thinking: No, no, I’m not a radical terrorist; I’m a moderate.  No, you got the wrong idea.  We’re moderates here.  Give us some money.  Trust us.  We hate ISIS, too.

The stories when they cross paths don’t add up.  Why hasn’t anyone else picked up on this?  This is not hard to do.  It just takes a little bit of deductive reasoning and a healthy dose of critical thinking.  That’s all I’ve just applied to this.  Class, let’s review.  So you’re telling me that unbeknownst to the planet, there’s this developing cell, in Syria, by your own admission, that was plotting to kill thousands, maybe millions, billions of people around the world, and they have a name so evil, so horrible that many Muslims can’t even say it: Khorasan.

[/private]

But you believe that John McCain and Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte and Bob Menendez and Bob Corker and John Kerry and Joey Biden and the rest of the gang — oh, but they can tell the difference, though, and with some amount of assurance and confidence can handpick moderate guys who are going to go toe to toe with Khorasan.

Let’s ask the follow-up question: What in dude’s name makes anyone think that a moderate, less violent, less thirsting for infidel blood than Khorasan could put a dent into these guys?  What makes anyone think that your average moderate terrorist has an Allah’s chance of taking on a radical terrorist in Syria?  Folks, none of this stuff adds up.  The story is just bogus.  You can’t possibly clear up all the loose ends.  You can’t possibly stitch them all together.  You just have to throw this stuff out there and hope there are enough rubes to swallow it and repeat it.
