The Hoover Dam is a Great Example of Government Planning Misdirecting Resources to Corrupt Associates

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – Doug French has a post at TownHall.com yesterday.  This has everything to do with what you’re talking about.  It is titled “Hoover Dam: Worst Investment in History.”  What Mr. French has done is written about the folly of the government trying to tame and harness the Colorado River under the proposition that there will always be water for anyone that wants it that moves into the middle of a desert.  Las Vegas, Nevada is in the middle of a freaking desert.  Most of that area that is serviced, 40 million people now that are allegedly serviced by the Hoover Dam, is in a desert.  Did you know that Lake Mead is 120 feet below the level it was when the dam was built, 120 feet?  It’s not coming back.  What’s going on here?  Well, there’s not enough water there. Mike:  Kyle is in Texas next.  Hello, Kyle.

Caller Kyle:  I had a couple things I’d like to comment on this morning.  You were talking about welfare yesterday when the Patriot was doing reruns.  I thought I’d listen to leftist stuff to see what they had coming out their butt.

Mike:  Why?

Caller Kyle:  I guess boredom.  They were calling welfare yesterday nutritionally-funded Americans.

Mike:  [laughing] Nutritionally-funded, I like that.  That’s creative.  So student loan recipients are educationally-funded Americans?

Caller Kyle:  Which I’m still paying back on from nine years ago.

Mike:  I have never heard nutritionally-funded Americans.  That’s a good one.  That way it sounds so charming.  It sounds like we’re such kind, caring, compassionate people because we care for their nutrition.  We care that they get arugula bought and paid for at taxpayer expense.  That is quite inventive.  I’m going to have to remember that.  What else you got?

Caller Kyle:  Everything I’ve been listening to so far, just listening to people talk and run on, I’m not hearing anything about immigration.  Being in South Texas like I am every day, I’m within five minutes of the border a lot of times.  I see two to three illegal aliens walking, from noon to two, the middle of the day, walking around.  I’ve got to carry a firearm because of the people that are getting mugged and vehicles stolen and killed because these people hide in the bushes and jump out in front of you and hijack your truck.  With the oil fields down here, there are vehicles everywhere.  A guy can’t make a dollar down here without carrying a firearm in his vehicle.  It’s just so ridiculous and I don’t hear anything about it.

To compound the situation, we have massive, massive immigration from Latin America and much of it goes into that area, oh, but we can accommodate them.  Yes, the United States has water and food and resources for the entire planet to consume.  Come on up here, the water is warm.  The problem is, as French points out, there will come a day when Lake Mead will either be perilously close to being no more or some genius will have to figure out another way to do this.  Many of those people that moved into the Southwest of the United States, in the arid, dry, waterless, barren Southwest are going to have to leave.

Here’s another one.  You people that live in Atlanta, you may not think about this, but Atlanta, Georgia and that area just north of Georgia has been in a miniature drought, not a total drought but it has suffered, and that little area of the Carolinas has suffered some fits and starts of a drought in the last five years.  Why does that matter?  Because there are millions and millions of people that live in the Atlanta area and surrounding suburbs that have all been attracted because water was never a problem.  What if it becomes a problem?  We seem to think that nature isn’t just going to go away.  Because we’re Americans, there will always be water here, always be food there.  That’s not the way it works.

That’s why I really like French’s essay about Hoover Dam and how it is the biggest boondoggle, misdirection of funds in the history of the planet, and ultimately it will be responsible for the emigration of tens of millions of people away from where they currently rely for water.  This is what government does because it doesn’t and can’t consider resources; it doesn’t have to.  You can always get a bailout.  Where do they get a bailout?  They have the power to tax people.  It’s all such a scam.

Caller Mike:  Hey, Mike, good to speak with you.  I’ve spoken to you in the past.  I’m an everyday listener and a big fan of your show.

Mike:  Thank you.

Caller Mike:  I just wanted to bring something to your attention.  I know you were talking about the EB whatever card it is and how you see a lot of people gaming the system.  My wife’s, let’s just say friend’s husband, was able to get Medicaid or Medicare and the only thing he had to do was show one month no salary and he’s able to get Medicaid, which is a lot better than the $1500-a-month Medicare insurance that I pay for my family, because there’s no deductible, no fee for prescriptions.  He only had to show one month of not earning any money to receive this type of service is pretty disgusting.  It disgusted me.  It’s frustrating because I’m paying $1,500 a month for my family while somebody can just game the system.  This person makes over $100,000 a year.  He’s in the financial business.  He gets paid once a month.  One month, if he doesn’t get paid, he’s able to obtain these services.  The world in itself, in my opinion, is getting a lot smaller.  It’s really shameful.  I’m in my 40’s now and the world that I grew up in is a lot better than the world my kids are going to see.

Mike:  Wait a minute, $1,500 a month for health insurance?

Caller Mike:  Yes.  I live in New York.  I have two kids and my family.  That’s what it costs me, $1,500 a month.

Mike:  My lord!  That is just — maybe you ought to take a bailout.

Caller Mike:  I try to be a good role model and try to do what I can.  It’s disgraceful when you see things like that happen.  I can’t say anything to it, but they’re pretty much gaming the system and getting away with it and it’s legal.

Mike:  You know what’s really worthy of discussion when you talk about the rise in insurance rates and what have you?  It used to be, way back in the day before government got in the business of screwing medicine up and the medical services industry, there used to be these policies that some middle class people would purchase.  They were called major medical.  What was major medical?  Major medical meant if something catastrophic happened and you had to spend months on end with all kinds of surgical procedures and hospital time and what have you, that you would have some kind of insurance to help offset the cost of that.  That’s what major medical was.  When governments got in the business of starting to regulate and then give away free healthcare services, of course they instantly inflated the cost.  Again, if you use the “follow the money trail” method, who would benefit from government regulating medical services industry?  That’s an easy one to answer: hospitals.
