Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – Life wasn’t so bad before all these things happened, before all this spending occurred.  We seemed to be doing pretty good.  As a matter of fact, if you’ll recall, when President Obama was running for his first term in office in the late fall of 2007 and through all of 2008, you might remember that he kept harkening back to the glory days of when Bill Clinton was in office, of the greatness of the Clinton presidency.  Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mike:  We have Buchanan and Krauthammer writing about this.  I found Krauthammer’s post to be most humorous.

[reading]

“The worst-case scenario for us,” a leading anti-budget-cuts lobbyist told The Post, “is the sequester hits and nothing bad really happens.” [Mike: Did you get that? The sequester hits and nothing bad really happens. In other words, people figure out they can actually survive without this unbelievably painful two-percent cut.]

Think about that. Worst case? That a government drowning in debt should cut back by 2.2 percent — and the country survives. That a government now borrowing 35 cents of every dollar it spends reduces that borrowing by two cents “and nothing bad really happens.” Oh, the humanity!

A normal citizen might think this a good thing. For reactionary liberalism, however, whatever sum our ever-inflating government happens to spend today…

Mike:  This is 2013.  Do you realize that the national legislature now spends double the amount of dollars that was spent in the last year of the Clinton presidency?  That means in the last 13 years, we have added $1.8 trillion in spending to what it is that leviathan counts as spending every year, $1.8 trillion per year.  It’s doubled.  If you could go back — just imagine this, folks.  AG, you were what, eighth grade, ninth grade in 1999?

AG:  Yeah, eighth, ninth grade.

Mike:  Life was horrible back then, wasn’t it?  You probably didn’t have any food to eat.  Cars didn’t work.  Turn the switch and the lights probably didn’t come on.

AG:  I thought it was great.  I had two working ACLs.

Sidebar_ad_Secede_die_baseball_capMike:  There you go with you and your knees again.  He had a pair of working ACLs.  That is a big thing.  Think about back in 1999.  Life was just miserable.  It had to have been a Hades on Earth.  The national legislature only spent half of what it’s spending today.  Can you imagine all the misery that must have been around and that people must have been experiencing in 1999 with a meager $1.8 trillion federal budget?  That had to have looked like something out of a John Carpenter movie starring Kurt Russell, “Escape From [insert your city here].”  [mocking] “We only spent $1.8 trillion last year.  Do you know how badly this hurts?”

I like the point that Krauthammer is making.  I was around in 1999.  I was around in 2000.  As a matter of fact, we’ll be celebrating year number ten of me being around here on these satellite radio airwaves two weeks from today.  I was around for this.  Many of you were around for this.  Take yourself back to 1999 or when the clock turned over to 2000 and we were all supposed to die because of Y2K and the computers couldn’t count the days right.  I don’t recall things being that bad, do you?  Amnesia is a very convenient thing for the parasite and political class.  If they can get you to forget what things were like before they intervene, then you may accept what they say today as gospel, as truth.  If you recall or remember the way things were before they intervened, then you may conclude or surmise or deduce that these people and all those that are in support of them — that includes think tanks, members of the media, authors and columnists and bloggers and writers and talking heads of the punditocracy — you may conclude that they’re all full of it, all the way up to their eyeballs.

Life wasn’t so bad before all these things happened, before all this spending occurred. As a matter of fact, you might even recall Hillary, when she was running against Obama in 2007 and 2008, talking about how great things were way back in the glory days of when the national legislature only spent $1.8 trillion.  It was a paradise on Earth when President Clinton was in office, remember?

Why can’t it be that way today?  If it was so great back then, why is Obama fighting so furiously to not let it occur again?  When you’re talking to someone who you can’t seem to penetrate and can’t get through their thick skulls when it comes to these sorts of matters, bring that up: President Obama actually campaigned on returning us back to the glory days of the Clinton presidency when we only spent half as much as we spend today, and we were told that that was a heaven on Earth, the pinnacle of American achievement was when we lived under that kind of spending.  Think about that for just a moment.  Back to Krauthammer:

[reading]

A normal citizen might think this is a good thing. For reactionary liberalism, however, whatever sum our ever-inflating government happens to spend today is the Platonic ideal — the reduction of which, however minuscule, is a national calamity.

Or damn well should be. Otherwise, people might get the idea that we can shrink government and live on.

Hence the president’s message. If the “sequestration” — automatic spending cuts — goes into effect, the skies will fall. Plane travel jeopardized, carrier groups beached, teachers furloughed. And a shortage of junk-touching TSA agents.

The Obama administration has every incentive to make the sky fall, lest we suffer that terrible calamity — cuts the nation survives. Are they threatening to pare back consultants, conferences, travel and other nonessential fluff? Hardly. It shall be air-traffic control. Meat inspection. Weather forecasting.

[end reading]

Mike:  That’s a really good point, and I’ve been talking about this all week long as well.  That’s why I brought up Brianna Keilar and her scare piece on this today that meat inspections are going to end.  Have you ever thought about what it is that a meat inspector does?
