Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – What is Soledad O’Brien or any news anchor that has been dispatched to go grandstand in Newtown, Connecticut and present this faux sense of community to these people, what are they accomplishing by doing that?  What is the purpose of that? What exactly is going to be solved by Zoraida Sambolin standing out in the cold in Newtown, or the aforementioned Soledad O’Brien?  Is that to bring any healing to those people or is that to gain an advantage for ratings?  What are you using for ratings?  The senseless murder of children.  To flash the story up on the screen, what is that to do?  Is that really to convey news or is that to execute a political agenda, or to promote, to be a promoter of a political agenda?  I would suggest to you that it probably is the latter, to be the promoter of a political agenda. Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mike:  Don is in Connecticut.  Hello, Don, you’re up next.  How are you?

Caller Don:  Hi, Mike, Merry Christmas.

Mike:  Same to you.

Caller Don:  I want to preface this by saying I think you’re an intelligent guy.  I don’t agree with some things you say.  Like I said, I do think you’re an intelligent man.  I want to ask you a question, seeing that this is what you do for a living and not what I do for a living.  Why is it, do you think, that we put such credence or weight or trust in the politicians and leaders of this country?  I didn’t ask the question properly.  We’ve had so many politicians descend on Newtown and the whole area.  The media is just reaching out to them for answers to what happened there.  This guy was going to kill people no matter what, whether he did it with a pipe bomb, whether during recess he got into a truck and mowed over kids.  He was going to kill people.  Whatever he did it with a gun or whatever, he was going to do something bad that day.  What I wanted to ask you was, why do you think we put such weight and such favor and people are looking to these politicians for these answers, when I think we should be looking more to ourselves and our community for the answers?

Mike:  I talked about this in the first hour.  What is Soledad O’Brien or any news anchor that has been dispatched to go grandstand in Newtown, Connecticut and present this faux sense of community to these people, what are they accomplishing by doing that?  What is the purpose of that?  Will those people recover or not recover because Soledad O’Brien — I say that just because I’m watching CNN today.  I don’t know who’s there from the other networks, although I suspect they have all sent correspondents and anchors to be live on the scene.  What exactly is going to be solved by Zoraida Sambolin standing out in the cold in Newtown, or the aforementioned Soledad O’Brien?  I imagine Fox News probably sent some anchors there to go be live on the scene.  I would imagine the other networks probably did as well.  Part of the morning crew on MSNBC is probably there.  What is the purpose of that?  Is that to bring any healing to those people or is that to gain an advantage for ratings?  What are you using for ratings?  The senseless murder of children.  To flash the story up on the screen, what is that to do?  Is that really to convey news or is that to execute a political agenda, or to promote, to be a promoter of a political agenda?  I would suggest to you that it probably is the latter, to be the promoter of a political agenda.  Who was the guy we met in the elevator?  Do you remember that?  We were leaving Fox News.  He was the priest.

AG:  He’s the Sirius XM Catholic Channel program director.

Mike:  He’s on with Cavuto often, or with O’Reilly.

AG:  Yeah, he’s the guy you’ll see on Fox News.

Mike:  So Fox News has a go-to reverend on this. It used to be in times of public strife and tragedy that the people would probably turn inward to their communities, and the leaders in their communities would have been ecumenical men and women.  They would have been men of the cloth and institutions where men of the cloth practice.  As the size of the State becomes larger and more ubiquitous, it only makes sense that you would turn away from the cloth and turn to the world, turn to mortals instead of immortals, believing, I guess, that the immortal has failed you, that the Almighty has failed you or that he has no answer, or maybe there is no answer forthcoming.  As I’ve said, every news network on earth descended on Tucson, Aurora, Colorado, name the place of the mass tragedy, yet we still know nothing more about how to identify and stop future Adam Lanzas from happening, do we, other than to pray for God’s benevolence that they will not.

The answer to the question is because the media and the State march in lockstep.  It is good business for the media to have the State enlarged, because we have to then hire the media to cover the State.  What are they up to?  What are they doing?  I’ll give you a great example: Anderson Cooper has a show on the Clinton News Network.  The tagline for the show is “Keeping Them Honest.”  Who’s them?  The State, the politicians.  We have erected a Tower of Babel in Washington, DC, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, wherever your state’s capital may be.  It’s nothing more than a tower of man, a Tower of Babel.  You pray to it.  You believe it can solve your problems.  You believe it provides peace on earth.  It doesn’t.  There’s only one entity that provides peace on earth, and you won’t find it, materially speaking, in a statehouse, although we could use a few of his miracles in statehouses.

The answer to the question is they do it is because that’s what they do.  The fact that I work in this industry is coincidental, believe me.  I’ve said this enough times now to have people quote it back to me.  If I had my druthers, we would spend most of our time on this program not talking about what exercise of State power we oppose next, because the State would not be that powerful.  There would be few of us that would as popular nationally speaking.  I would probably concentrate my efforts to whatever community it was that I lived in.

Robert Nisbet has that book that I’ve been encouraging people to read, Loss of Community.  If you read Nisbet’s book, you will come to the conclusion that one of the things that’s missing in all these instances is an actual community.  There are attempts at community and the organizations we tend to gravitate towards and some of the things we tend to do show that we still know instinctively, or God has planted the seed in the back of our heads, that we need community, that it is a community that is knitted together and held together not by government.  That’s the fallacy of all this.  The rejection of the divine right of kings was the rejection of the divine in favor of the rule of man.  We call for it all the time here in republicanism.  It has to be tempered and it has to accompany the divine, the grace.
