If We Don’t Continue Feeding the Federal Monster, Death and Pestilence Are Surely Around the Corner AbbyMcGinnis

Mike:  I think that is basically correct.  There are a lot of you out there who think it took 100 years to ruin this and therefore it’s going to take 100 years to undo it.  I don’t support that.  I think the ruination has been going on for longer than 100 years, and you don’t have 100 years to reverse it.  What are needed and what we are crying out for in this day and age are statesmen, students of history, and people of good moral character and virtue.  Sad to say, ladies and gentlemen, there aren’t a lot of them out there.  The desperation sets in.  Here’s how this was described in the early part of the 19th century from Taylor of Caroline’s book Tyranny Unmasked, just a quick passage:

[reading]

Why have duties diminished? Because this tariff and other property-transferring measures, have diverted the profits of labour from being expended in consumptions, by which the public treasury would have been supplied, to enrich the treasuries of capitalists. Why are agricultural products so excessively depressed? Because of the expulsion of foreign commodities by the existing tariff. [Mike: What he’s describing is how designing men were trying to ruin the conditions under which Southerners and Southern agriculture states existed back in 1814.] To these internal regulations, add our imitations of English extravagance, in the expenses of government, and both the causes and the remedies we are in search of must be very easily discovered. [Mike: Here was Taylor of Caroline’s suggestion.] Restore our renowned republican frugality, reform our tariff for the object of revenue only, and suppress exclusive privileges; and our treasuries will no longer be empty, government will not be obliged to plunge the nation deeper and deeper into debt, taxation will be light, and the national happiness, gradually lost, will be recovered by a re-occupation of the principles gradually deserted.

[end reading]

Mike:  These principles were gradually deserted, ladies and gentlemen, over the course of 26 years in his opinion.  We’ve been gradually deserting in the course of about 226 years.  You can say with earnest, in the new, modern, liberal progressive era that probably began under the Roosevelt administration, that our principles have been gradually deserted over the course of the past 80 years.  How do you reverse that process?  You actually start by reversing the process.  Here’s a valid purpose of the general government: discharging the debt that has been accrued on the money that has been spent that had to be borrowed.  That actually has to be done.

What are other purposes?  You can have debates over those.  I don’t believe there’s going to be any consensus on that.  We have a corrupt people that actually believe they are entitled and must continue the current programs, because to not continue the current programs, there’s an awful lot of fear out there.  There are a lot of things that are unknown.  If we don’t continue Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid and these other programs, if we don’t continue agriculture subsidies, if we don’t continue subsidizing education, if we don’t continue sending bureaucrats hither and yon to micromanage this and regulate that, death and destruction and pestilence are right around the corner.  Of course, Taylor of Caroline is having none of this because he continues:

[reading]

The Committee have disclosed one great cause of the decrease of consumptions in proportion to population, by reminding us of the fact, that capital has increased in a few hands up to a redundancy. [Mike: Has that happened here in our age? Yes, it has.] The same policy which begets this enormous transfer of profits or property, [Mike: A redistribution of wealth] must beget a correspondent diminution of consumptions, by depriving labour of that portion of its income applicable to consumptions, and transferring it to the employment of accumulating capitals in other hands.

[end reading]

Mike:  In other words, once the corrupt policy begins and people begin to be enriched off of it, they’re not going to want to give it up.  As a matter of fact, they don’t want to give it up.  If we go back to Obama’s press conference yesterday, we can hear the horrors as he believes they are going to — I want to make sure I get the right file.  If we don’t do this right, we are all going to perish.  It is going to be absolutely awful.  AG, here’s what I labeled it: “What happens if Republicans don’t pay our bills?  Everybody dies.”

[start audio clip]

President Obama: If Congressional Republicans refuse to pay America’s bills on time, Social Security checks and veterans benefits will be delayed.  We might not be able to pay our troops or honor our contracts with small-business owners. Food inspectors, air traffic controllers, specialists who track down loose nuclear materials wouldn’t get their paychecks. Investors around the world will ask if the United States of America is in fact a safe bet. Markets could go haywire. Interest rates would spike for anybody who borrows money, every homeowner with a mortgage, every student with a college loan, every small-business owner who wants to grow and hire. It would be a self-inflicted wound on the economy. It would slow down our growth, might tip us into recession, and ironically would probably increase our deficit. To even entertain the idea of this happening, the United States of America not paying its bills, is irresponsible. It’s absurd.

[end audio clip]

Mike:  In other words, you have to spend the $3.7 trillion and then you have to borrow another $2.1 trillion in order so that next year you can spend $3.9 trillion.  Do you have all that?  If you don’t do this, little children are going to die, starve to death, planes are going to fall out of the sky.  The entire world is going to come here and reclaim all of their investments.  If you are currently employed, you are going to become unemployed.  Schools are going to shut down.  The military is not going to be paid.  We’re going to strand our troops overseas and all these other calamities and catastrophes.  If that is going to be the result of congressional and Mordor on the Potomac River planning when it can’t meet its obligations because it has spent more money than it takes in, whose fault is that?  Is that really the fault of one party or is that the fault of a system that is fundamentally and tragically flawed, I’d say fatally flawed?

If that’s what happens, if you can’t borrow more money on your line of credit, if you’re at the casino and you’ve already wagered the entire house, the RV you’re traveling around the country in, your entire life savings and you’ve lost it all and the casino won’t give you another marker for $100,000 so you can try and get it back, is that the result of a prudent government that ought to be sustained?  Is it?  So you can continue to what, roll the dice?  You can continue to what, roll up the debt?  You can continue what, continue the promises you have no intention of actually seeing through to their fruition?  This is just insane.

He’s making the case for leaving the union.  He’s making the case for states and people going: That’s it, man, if this is what we have to face every year or every four months, what’s the purpose in continuing this?  By his own admission, the entire planet shuts down if we don’t give into the extortion that our children and grandkids must these debts we rack up today.  Folks, I don’t know what it was like to think that a three percent tax on a bag of tea was the end of the world and to pick up guns and revolt against a government that was trying to institute the tax, or that a dismissal of a duly-seated legislature and duly-elected judges were strong enough violations to make people decide to leave their former forms of government.

If this doesn’t at least cultivate the thought in one’s mind, then I say we all should just give in.  Let’s just let it happen.  Don’t spend $1 trillion this year, spend $8 trillion. If all these machinations of government can truly make us happy, solve all our problems, employ all our people, cure all the sick, solve the world’s problems, bring democracy to the known universe, what are we waiting for?  The fact of the matter is that no one expects utopia if the president and Congress gets their way.  What we expect is more of the same: more bickering, more arguing, more wringing of hands, and more gnashing of teeth.  This is really depressing.
